Happy

The picture was taken in my backyard this week.
On Oprah yesterday I was so touched by the interview with Roger Ebert.
This quote from his journal was read by his wife.  It's one every person can live by:

"I believe that if, at the end of it all, according to our abilities, we have done something to make others a little happier, and something to make ourselves a little happier, that is about the best we can do. To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try. I didn't always know this, and I am happy that I lived long enough to find it out."

  1. Blessings to you and may you have a sweet week!
The flower is so pretty and I am ready to see more of these with our Spring coming. We have some green shooting up through the soil.
Get excited. It's been a long winter here in Kansas.
    God bless,

  9. I never watch Oprah, but Roger Ebert drew me to the show yesterday. He and his wife have such a deep love -- it was beautiful to watch them together. I was actually tearing up with her when she got to hear his voice again (via computer).

  13. *If there is one unpretentious happy flower I have seen, then that yellow beauty from your backyard is surely it!

And what the fine Mr.Ebert has said is indeed the only truth to be observed.*

    * A good happy day to you!*

  17. Thank you for this important reminder. It's striking to think of making ourselves unhappy as a crime, but it truly is.

  18. What a beautiful quote. Spoken by someone who has lived through some of the worst and experienced some of the best.

  19. I missed the interview but know it must have been quite heart-wrenching to see. It makes one thankful for each day even with wrinkles and age spots!!

I picked my first bunch of daffodils this week - and then bought tulips at the store, just be to surrounded by some semblance of Spring.

  22. Beautiful yellow daffodil! My second favorite flower! I miss them, they don't grow in FL.

I also watched this Oprah show and enjoyed this quote from his journal.

Lucky you to be attending a St. Patrick's Day Tea Party! I hope you take lots of pictures to post!

  23. I just read a wonderful article about Roger Ebert, from the perspective of a journalist who was mentored by Roger Ebert. It was an interesting and touching followup to the Oprah appearance:

    http://deadspin.com/5482198/my-roger-ebert-story?skyline=true&s=i

It ends with on this note, "as you watch Ebert on Oprah this week and see him, ready for his closeup, the center of the world at last, if you wonder to yourself, "They're making him into some sort of saint. Is he really that nice of a guy?" ... just know that, yes, he really is that nice of a guy. But more than that, he's a wonderful, soulful writer who is better, and more devoted, than just about anyone in the game."
