When I see lavender I always think of this children's song.
At one time I wanted to open a tea shop and thought I would name it Lavender Blue.
Lavender just sings to my heart.
This is the visit to the lavender farm, where I see they also love chairs.
Today we go again to pick up 20 lavender plants for our garden.
I can't wait to see them growing there.
Best wishes for a delightful day.
May we all be King's and Queen's, dilly dilly.

Lyrics:
Lavender's blue dilly, dilly,
Lavender's green;
When I am king, dilly, dilly,
You shall be Queen.
Call up your men dilly, dilly,
Set them to work,
Some to the plough, dilly, dilly,
Some to the cart.
Some to make hay, dilly, dilly,
Some to thresh corn,
Whilst you and I, dilly, dilly,
Keep ourselves warm.
Lavender's green;
When I am king, dilly, dilly,
You shall be Queen.
Call up your men dilly, dilly,
Set them to work,
Some to the plough, dilly, dilly,

Some to make hay, dilly, dilly,
Some to thresh corn,
Whilst you and I, dilly, dilly,
Keep ourselves warm.
Alternate words:
Let the birds sing dilly dilly, and the lambs play,
We shall be safe dilly dilly, out of harm's way.
We shall be safe dilly dilly, out of harm's way.
Love you

I want to visit that garden with you if I ever get to Portland. Promise?
ReplyDeleteI can smell this farm right over here in Ontario!
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
xx
Found your blog while bloghopping -- your pictues are beautiful -- I will be back : ) Blessings
ReplyDeleteYour photos are gorgeous - such color! I love that bright yellow adirondack chair with the greenery. The pink and blue chairs are pretty too.
ReplyDeleteLavender Blue would be a pretty name for a tea shop. My Southern tearoom would be called Sweet Biscuit because of my fondness for scones. :-)
I am just returning to the blog world after about a 15 month hiatus. Somehow, someway, I discovered your blog, and I find it absolutely beautiful. I wanted to introduce myself, since I will be stopping by often...and probably even becoming a follower.
ReplyDeleteIn regard to this post, I, too, love lavender. One of my favorite teas is Earl Grey with lavender.
Have a lovely day,
Patti
I forgot to say this: my daughter and I have been enjoying tearooms together since she was about 6 (she's now 20). At one time, we talked about opening a tearoom of our own...we wanted to name it Daffodil Lane. Not as delightful a fragrance as Lavender Blue, but just as beautiful a picture, I think.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Patti
Happy lavender! Twenty plants will make a magnificent showing!
ReplyDeleteThe first of March I started about 20 new plants from cuttings. It has been a chilly spring, and not all have rooted, but more than half did and they are growing well. It's been fun to watch them grow by this simple method. The starts came from two of my favorite plants that we dug up (too big and woody after 8 years). I dipped them in honey to help them root. I guess it worked. :D I need to get them out of pots and into the garden.

Lavender's blue dilly, dilly,
ReplyDeleteLavender's green;
I shall sit
in the pink chair, dilly, dilly,
If I shall be Queen.
:-)
{{ i just made that up,

i would
sit in that PINK chair
and be very happy }}
Oh the memories! My mother sang this to me when I was little. I love lavender, and thanks for this little trip down memory lane!
ReplyDeleteI have loved that song since childhood! Sometimes I get it on my mind and it stays there!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a delightful name for a tea room!
Katherine
Those chairs! Those chairs! I think I'm in love.
ReplyDeleteI would love to come shop at Lavender Blue one day! Lovely images, and I can smell the lavender just by reading this post. Ahhh ...
ReplyDeleteHi Marilyn - that garden looks a lot like an Irish garden - it looks as green there in Portland as it does here! I love your purple/lavender colours too. Hope your lavender gives you a lot of pleasure for years - and take it easy on the cutting back if a harsh winter is predicted! I replied to your comment on my post over at my blog.
ReplyDeleteAll the best, Catherine.
Love that song! Sometimes I sing it to be a bit silly - and sometimes I just sing it because I feel like it!
