Cleaning around your Castle

Tips from the book, The French Art of Tea
for cleaning with Tea in the Home (Castle).

To rid a frying pan of the odour of fish or onion,
rub it with damp tea leaves.

To clean painted woodwork, nothing is as
effective as strong tea.

To clean and revive the colour of carpets,
scatter them with used tea leaves-well drained-
then brush off.

To drive mosquitos from a room,
burn some tea leaves.

Silk garments, tatamis and other mats can be
washed with tea, which removes stains and odours
and give them a fine sheen.

Disclaimer: I have not tried these tips, but they
sound like they might be interesting to try.
If you do try any of them, let me know how it worked.

  1. I had heard of that method of cleaning carpet, but not the others. Interesting and non-polluting that's for sure!

  6. Hi Ms. Marilyn,
I've been looking at your blog tonight. Very sweet, cute and diverse that is forsure!!
I will have to try to clean my "Castle" with tea...never mind, it will never work because I will just keep drinking it.
Guess I better just call for the Maid. (HA! I wish!)
So glad to join you all on the "ATAA!"
    Thanks for being so "welcoming!"

  7. Wow... this was illuminating, Marilyn! I had no idea tea could be used for so much household use than drinking! We have a dark-colored carpet rather like tatami in the dining room... I might have try that last trip to give it a spring clean! I make my own household, eco-friendly cleaners anyway, may as well add tea to the list of makings. ;o) Happy Weekend ((HUGS))

  11. Actually I've heard about that before but I have never tried it. Next time when I call the End of Tenancy Cleaning London service, I will ask them if it is really helpful. Regards.

  13. The only such hint I can recall is to use spent tea leaves to deter fleas from pets. I'll have to try some of these!

  14. Wonderful tips to try! Do you know that tea is effective for relief of burns and sunburns? When our son was little he got a very bad sunburn (when he wasn't in our care!). My dear mother immediately took teabags, steeped them for several minutes and applied them to the burn area. He got relief. I'm sure there are many useful ways to use tea that we've never heard of.
