Sitting by the fire at this time of year with a beautiful winter scene on my cup.
This transferware teacup is "The Friendly Village"
by Johnson Bros., made in England.
"Rural Scenes" by Royal Staffordshire Pottery.
Recently I have fallen in love with English transferware teacups.
The second cup I wasn't sure I wanted at first, but I love it.
It just fits perfectly in my hand and so lovely for my morning cup of tea.
Now as I have said before, I don't collect teacups or teapots;
but I must say I have a weakness for transferware.
Do you collect teacups?
What style do you like?

I love tea cups and tea ware in general. Shelly ware is a favorite. I do have some odd cups and saucers without roses; a red transfer ware with a church and a souvenir cup from Vancouver covered in fishing lures. I like your transfer ware c&s's. The gal over at Ash Tree Cottage is show casing her transfer ware today too.
ReplyDeletewow these are beautiful!
ReplyDeletecan you believe i never drink my tea out of teacup....always a tall skinny coffee mug....weird i know:)
ReplyDeleteMy sister has Friendly Village pieces. I collect cups and saucers, and love the older more intricate designs. I too, love transferware and have a weakness for Lustreware.
ReplyDeleteFriendly Village is one of the worlds favorite patterns, and transferware has been popular for 300 years. Winners indeed! Great choices!

Ooh, the pop of red is excellent!
ReplyDeleteMarilyn, if you hadn't gotten the Staffordshire cup, I would have. I love all things brown transferware.
ReplyDeleteYour transferware teacup is lovely. I will be on the lookout now for a Friendly Village cup to add to my collection.
ReplyDeleteI recently started collecting cups. I love plain white ones...but with a unique shape or feature. I must say...it's fun to hunt for them!
ReplyDeleteI love your transferware teacups! I think I should look for a few to enjoy on these chilly mornings and evenings by the fire. I love coming to visit you here - you're such an inspiration.

These are really lovely, Marilyn...And that "lacy" white plate it's on is a wonderful accent to show off the cup/sauce. I love tea anything! And I do like transferware, especially those English scenes in red, or that seldom-seen purple. I don't have any transferware in tiny collection though. Most of what I have is a mish-mash of English bone china of more newer date, delicate floral patterns by Royal Albert, Aynsley, etc. With limited space, I don't have storage for a big collection anymore. But love my tea time things. :o) Happy Weekend ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty cup! It's so important that the cup feel good in our hand. The differences are subtle but important.
ReplyDeleteThese are fabulous. I particularly enjoy transferware and I love Johnson Bros. I lean toward "Friendly Village" but frankly, I like them equally -- I think it's just the season that calls me to that one! Oh! Those saucers! What detail on the edge! Honestly, we DO have such a lot in common!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I can technically say I "collect" teacups (no rhyme or reason to mine), but I do tend to "acquire" them over time. And your transferware is lovely! There's a richness or something to these pieces I really like. A friend of mine has said she would like to collect Friendly Village, so I may have to look for some for her!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tea cups and all you share.
ReplyDeleteLove Jeanne♥
beautiful!
