Munro

Let me introduce you to a very special dog in our family.
This is Munro.
He is in training to be a companion pet.
His owner right now is a niece-in-law.
She has trained many dogs and
Munro is the latest.
He is a sweetie and someone will be very fortunate
to have him by their side one day.
I have always known these dogs served a very special purpose,
but recently in my own neighborhood I observed a dog in action.
As I was waiting at a stop light a dog and companion walked across
the cross walk in front of me.  When they arrived at the curb the dog
stopped and curved it's body gently in front of the companion causing her to stop.
She then stepped up and again I could see the dog guide her away
from walking into a pole.
Today I celebrate dog companions, they are very special indeed.

  5. Munro certainly looks sweet and gentle. Companion dogs are special and so are their trainers. It must take a lot of patience and special skill to train them.

  6. What a good dog! I have a close friend who volunteered for Guide Dogs for the Blind for about fifteen years. These dogs are literally life-savers.

Good for your niece - it's a noble service she provides.

  8. What a great job they do, and Munro looks like a sweetie. AAll the best in his training. How does your niece train them, is she trained to train?
Never thought about it before, but how do they do that?

  10. Companion dogs are just incredible. I am always so impressed with the people who have the patience and commitment to train them. I don't need a companion dog, but I'd give a lot to have mine be so well behaved and sweet.

  11. I used to have to observe and register service dogs for the deaf and hard of hearing when I worked for the State of NC - they were so amazing and worked very hard. What beautiful animals, and the patience of the trainers is amazing.

    Munro looks very sweet.

    Hugs - Mary

  13. Joey's gonna be jealous! But seriously, isn't it amazing dogs can be trained to do this? Reminds me of Theodosia's dog Earl Grey in Laura Childs' tea shop mysteries!
