As part of the Chinese New Year's celebration the Lan Su Chinese Gardens in Portland, Oregon
hangs red lanterns throughout the gardens.
On a particularly sunshiny day this week I walked through the gardens.
The red lanterns enchant me and delight me.
Checking with Wikipedia I was curious what the lanterns represented.
"The lanterns can symbolize the people letting go of their past selves and getting a new one,
which they will let go of the next year."
Do you face each new year with a letting go of the old and starting with a new you?
Is this why we so often have resolutions at new years?
If you make resolutions, are you still sticking to them?
Wishing you all a Happy Chinese New Year this month of celebrating.

I would like to visit there. Your photos make my heart sing.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that symbolism. Cool! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Chinese New Year photos! How wonderful to have the Lan Su Chinese Gardens nearby.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty with all that blue and white and bursts of reds. Resolutions? What resolutions! (But I am living to my word "anticipate!")
ReplyDeleteLove the striking contrast of the red balloons against the dark structures. It announces something special, something exciting is happening.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photographs Happy Chinese New Year the year of the water snake.
ReplyDeleteMuch love

How I wish I could be there! I didn't know that about the lanterns. I don't make resolutions anymore, except to resolve not to make any!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the red lanterns--and their symbolism. The Chinese New Year celebrations are so beautiful. I can very much identify with the letting go aspect of a new year. I journal a lot a year's end and beginning--releasing old things, and leaving a door open for new things. I find it very therapeutic, as well and creatively challenging and useful manifesting new things in a new year. :o) Happy Day, Marilyn ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteI must confess I've already slipped with a few resolutions ... but I realized it yesterday and it's not too late to get back on track!
