I meant to Do My Work To-day
I meant to do my work to-day-
But a brown bird sang in the apple-tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me.
And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand-
So what could I do but laugh and go?

Today is Poem in Your Pocket Day.
Celebrate with a poem and come and play.
Oh, Marilyn - this is a FANTASTIC poem and reminds me much of my hubbie! :-) xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous! My poem is by the actor Victor Buono.
ReplyDeleteI think that I shall never see
My feet.
I have that poem in my book of quotations. It's just the way one feels at times.
ReplyDeleteNice! I have felt that way once we're into spring. Not yet though, it's cold here, not many birds singing, no butterflies yet but the grass is greening! Your pics are lovely, esp. the first one!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite poems.
ReplyDeleteThank you -- this will explain to my critique partner why I didn't get Chapter 4 edited today. I really *was* outside doing all these things!
ReplyDeleteVERY sweet! That could be my daily poem--there are a lot of good things distracting lately, not least the beauty of spring unfolding! Happy Days, Marilyn ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteThis is a new poem to me. I like the rhythm and the imagery. Thanks for sharing, Marilyn. I hope you have a good weekend whatever you're doing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful indeed.
ReplyDeleteMuch love and many blessings
Love Jeanne
