Tea at Betty's in York

All I can say is that this was a dream come true to have tea at Betty's.
Sitting in the Belmont Room, listening to piano music, and being served
so graciously.  It brought tears to my eyes and delight to my soul.
Our first taste was a prawn cocktail, just delicious with a creamy
avocado bottom.
Then tea was brought to our table.
I had the Betty's tea blend of Assam and Darjeeling.
My "live-in gardener" had a herbal tea that was so pretty in a glass teapot.
Yes, there I am at tea again and in my polka dots.
I must say this denim tunic top traveled well and worked for tea time on several occasions.
I do travel light, so always looking for just the right travel wear and this was it.
The savories were smoked salmon with cream cheese and dill roulade
and pork and apple pie.
Sandwiches were roast Yorkshire ham and tomato pate on tomato bread,
coronation chicken on pumpkin bread, and egg mayonnaise on sour dough bread.

Scones were lemon and rose petal served with cream and strawberry jam.
The sweets were chocolate and passion fruit cube, raspberry tart,
pistachio and chocolate dacquoise slice, gooseberry macaron,
rhubarb cloud, and in the middle lemon religieuse.
This one little macaron just tickled my heart
with that sweet flower perched at the top.
I had a difficult time bringing myself to nibble,
but alas I devoured it flower and all.
Everything was so delicious.
I want a repeat right now.
At the end of tea time as we were ready to leave a lovely
bag was set before us with their signature tea in a small tin.
What a special treat to carry home.
Outdoors in front of Betty's was quite active with tourist,
but in the tearooms it was a peaceful respite.
An afternoon tea that delighted my soul.

  1. This looked like an extra special tea time! The photo of you and Jim is a beautiful remembrance of such a sweet afternoon. Each photo you took while at this tea room was more captivating than the previous one. The menu looks superb - love the variety of sandwiches, savories and desserts.

  2. I loved their Betty's Blend tea. I brought a canister home with me. And of course to have a canister with their name on for a memory.

  3. How very special! That prawn cocktail was such a great beginning. I would love every bite of each thing, too. Rose petal scones....just never occurred to me to add rose petals to scones. A lovely idea.

  4. . . . . . . now you're making me feel very guilty - not a single tea time in Ireland, but one heck of a lot of pubs and swigging back glasses of wine (me) and Guinness (Bob)!!!!!

Oh the joys of travel - this tea time looked amazing!

    Hugs - Mary

  7. It's all lovely but I think the thing that captivated me most here is that lovely glass teapot. That tea inside looks delicious! I think you couldn't have a lovelier tea -- but then I think I might have said something similar two or three posts back!

  11. What a lovely tea time. The savories look so good (so do the sweets, but I'm partial to the savories). We leave for our trip on Saturday and I'm hoping for some great tea places as well.
You both look great in the photo!
