Cousins

This week my mind is reminiscing, thinking of cousins
as many of us will come together for a family reunion.
This one is going to be different.
We won't be sitting around staring for the first time at the television
or sitting out near the apple orchards in California with our grandpa.
This will be the first time to gather in Oregon
and the first time that I am the oldest generation.
Their were 26 grandchildren in my mom's family.
I am the oldest girl, with one boy older than me.
I babysat for some of them and loved them all.
We loved playing in the dirt of the apple orchard.
Last year you may recall some of the Hurst women gathered in California.
We decided we needed to gather with everyone this year.
This weekend is the designated time to play, hug, laugh, and cry together.
I am making plenty of iced tea to take.
My favorite cousin will stay at my house.
Can't wait to introduce our grandchildren, a new generation, to each other.
So if you don't hear from me for a couple days,
I am off playing in the sun with cousins.

Have a terrific weekend, dear friends!

  2. I hope you're enjoying your cousin time. I'm the eldest of 32 on my mother's side, so I know what fun these big families can be - and all about caring for the younger ones.
