As part of my family reunion last weekend we picked blueberries.
One of my cousins is a blueberry farmer.
If you ever see blueberries in the market under the name Hurst Berry Farm,
that is my cousin. We are so proud of him.
Here are some of the cousins picking.
Then we got a tour of the factory.
Wow! That is a lot of blueberries!
The machinery sorts, cleans, and removes stems and twigs.
Now my freezer has 3 gallons of blueberries.
So what would you do with so many blueberries?
I love blueberry muffins and blueberries in pancakes,
or maybe blueberries in fruit salads.
Do you have a special recipe?
Ideas welcomed!
One of my breakfast guests many years ago said,
ReplyDelete"Those are the blue berriest muffins I've ever had". I loved making them for company and family. If the kids got a muffin with many berries in it, they would say they hit the jackpot!
What fun and now your freezer is full! I picked blueberries one whole summer when I was 12, with my sister and my best friend. We had so much fun laughing and telling stories between the rows! Our lips and tongues were always blue and I made enough money to buy my school clothes that year. It's hard work! I have a few blueberry recipes on my site under 'baking'. Sounds like a fun family reunion - I'll have to look for them at the market. xx K
ReplyDeleteHow about blueberry scones? King Arthur flour has 2 recipes that look good.
ReplyDeleteBlueberry smoothies, scones, pies, cakes, galettes, pancakes, and of course always muffins! My favorite muffin recipe is posted here:

What a fun time you had - what a huge amount of berries to have on hand. They do freeze well though and stay good for a long time thankfully!
Hugs - Mary
Freeze them in small batches which can be used in baking. I saw a recipe today for a blueberry coffee cake on the King Arthur Face book site!
ReplyDeleteI have lots of blueberries in the freezer, too. We use them on our granola and yogurt in the mornings in winter - just a quick 30 seconds in the microwave and they are good to go.
ReplyDeleteI like making blueberry squares, and muffins!
Back in the early 80s ( I think) my parents used to run a blueberry farm. They still have enough blueberry bushes left to give family blueberries. Australian climate is usually good for blueberries if it doesn't get too hot!
ReplyDeleteThis is my best use of blueberries - the first one I make during blueberry season. Then in the dead of winter I make it with frozen berries.

I think blueberry muffins are my favorite, but blueberry pancakes are right up there, too! There was a recipe for Blueberry Syrup on the Pioneer Woman blog in the last day or two that would be amazing on some blueberry pancakes! Another easy treat is to spread an English Muffin with cream cheese, drop on some blueberries, and drizzle with a bit of honey. Wish I had some right now!
ReplyDeleteNow, that's the kind of thing that's fun to do as a gang! Rick claims he's the blueberry pancake expert. He may be -- or not -- but they sure are good! Love blueberries!
ReplyDeleteI looked back and found this Blueberry Pound Cake recipe I enjoyed some years ago. My dad grows blueberries, and like you, I have more than I can eat right now! http://teawithfriends.blogspot.com/2010/07/red-white-and-blueberries.html
ReplyDeleteWe're serving miniature blueberry tarts in the tea room (18 yesterday, 24 today). Only used a pint and a half for the recipe... you do have an abundance!
