O bless this people, Lord, who seek their own face
Under the mask and can hardly recognize it
O bless this people that breaks its bond
And with them, all the peoples of Europe,
All the peoples of Asia,
All the peoples of Africa,
All the peoples of America,
Who sweat blood and sufferings.
And see, in the midst of these millions of waves
The sea swell of the heads of my people.
And grant to their warm hands that they may clasp
The earth in a girdle of brotherly hands,
Beneath the rainbow of thy peace.
~Leopold Sedar Senghor
And my prayer today is
Peace in the World.
We can only pray and do our part.
A beautiful post and prayer on this International Day of Peace.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even realize they had a day of "peace." What a special day, indeed.

Agreeing with you in this prayer!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful day! Peace to all, and peace to all corners of the world and beyond. And in the inspiring words attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi, "Lord make me an instrument of your peace." Let peace begin with each one of us... ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteYou've introduced me to Leopold Sedar Senghor, Marilyn. The words he wrote are heartfelt. My friends have recently moved back to the UK after spending many years teaching and doing translation work in Senegal so learning about this man and his poetry has extra meaning. I join you in prayer. May there be harmony among nations and individuals and may we strive for peaceful relationships in our own lives.
