Lilacs - Wishing for Smellivision!

It is lilac time in the Northwest and I wish you could smell them.
  Driving north to Woodland, Washington last Saturday
we (my "live-in gardener and I) visited the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens.
Have you heard of Hulda? Many have not.
A historical fiction book by Jane Kirkpatrick is 
Where Lilacs Still Bloom.
It actually is a good story to learn who Hulda was
back at the turn of the twentieth century.
She developed at least 14 new varieties of lilacs.
This post is picture heavy, but I just couldn't stop snapping pictures.
Each one was just wonderful.
This pink above was my favorite called Romance.










I hadn't visited the gardens for quite a few years
and the Hulda Klager Lilac Society had certainly made
beautiful improvements.

I found this one fascinating with the white edge on each blossom.


The barn and gift shop have been renovated.

The back of the house had a lovely magnolia too.


All I can say is if you ever are in the Northwest when the lilacs
are blooming this is a must see place to stop.

    What a wonderful place!!!

    And I look forward to the house!!!

    I always loved lilacs. My husband has allergies, and he can't be near them. I didn't used to have allergies, but with age, I seem to have developed "something."

    I was tested for allergies, and came out negative. But I doooo sneeze and etc. The person told me, that when grass is being cut, dust is raised, and that bothers me.

    But lilacs do not raise dust. -sigh-

    Spring causes allergy like symptoms, from whatever. So I don't antagonize them, by breathing in lovely fragrances. -sigh-

    Enjoy them, for me!!!!!!!! :-)

    The Lilac gardens sounds wonderful. I've always thought of the Lilac as Purple, but there are many different colors here. What a peaceful place. Love the statues.....and those Purple chairs. ; ) Did you go to the gift shop?

    I wish I could smell them too (even though then I won't be able to breathe for a few months!) -- and soon I will. June, probably. It's gorgeous and I am so glad you had a photo heavy post because each one is a gem!

    It must smell like pure heaven to walk through that garden when they are blooming. I brought in one little branch from my neighbors bush early in the week and it smelled so wonderful in my house for days!

    I can imagine the wonderful scent in the air in that garden. Marvelous! I'm heading out this afternoon to work in my garden and there will be some lilac sniffing going on there. Looking forward to reading about Hulda's house.

    I love to walk through Hulda's gardens. It's a favorite place of mine. We haven't been able to slip away and visit this year. My best memory of the gardens was the day when we took my dear, little mother to see the flowers and smell and scents and enjoy every corner of the home and gardens. Thank you for sharing the gardens this year. My favorite is the purple lilac with the white edges. And I love the little Korean lilac I bought when we were there a couple of years ago. Last year it had just few blooms. This year it's full and they have an aroma that is almost intoxicating.

    I have lilacs sitting on my table right now and my house smells divine. I love that they grow everywhere here in Germany and will miss when we go home to Atlanta because you can't fine them there! Have a lovely weekend!
