Peace
Peace is a concept of societal friendship and harmony in the absence of hostility and violence. In a social sense, peace is commonly used to mean a lack of conflict (such as war) and freedom from fear of violence between individuals or groups.
“We must concentrate not merely on the negative expulsion of war
but the positive affirmation of peace.”
~Martin Luther King Jr.
This first picture is the view from my cousins property last October.
Their beautiful trees and town are totally gone now.
I am trying to imagine what will come in the future as the earth renews itself.
Sitting on this bank was another kind of peace.
A peace that touches our soul.
I always had to stop to take a picture of this bridge when we would head to my cousins home.
It is a sight that also touches the peaceful core of my well being.
I have heard the bridge was saved and I am thankful for that.
One of the things many years ago that attracted me to the Quaker faith
was their stance on peace. They feel that there is a way of coming to a peaceful resolution
without lifting guns to kill others and cause destruction.
It is something still today that I appreciate.
So often during these times of turmoil the words of this song comes to me:
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me
Let There Be Peace on Earth
The peace that was meant to be
And let it begin with me
Let There Be Peace on Earth
The peace that was meant to be
With God as our Father
Brothers (Sisters) all are we
Let me walk with my brother (sister)
In perfect harmony.
Brothers (Sisters) all are we
Let me walk with my brother (sister)
In perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
Let this be the moment now.
With ev'ry step I take
Let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment and live
Each moment in peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me
Let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment and live
Each moment in peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me

I just can't help but think if we could all adopt that thought right now
our world would be a better place.
Peace I send to you this day!
And peace to you, Marilyn. Peace is a much needed virtue in our world today. I'm from a Mennonite heritage and peace-making is very much a part of that tradition, too. Thinking of your cousin and so many others who have lost homes in these terrible fires.
ReplyDeletePeace such a wonderful word in these times of hardship, loss and fear...Peace to you dear friend.
ReplyDeleteDear Marilyn, I know this song very well, and I know the words by heart. It is one of my favorite songs that is played at my church. The photo you shared of the Fall leaves and the water is beautiful. And the word "PEACE" is the best word you have shared so far. That is what the world needs the most.
ReplyDelete~Sheri
*Marilyn, have you listened to this song before? It's a very emotional and beautiful one.
Two beautiful, but poignant photos shared here Marilyn. Thank you and peace be with you, now and always.
ReplyDeleteI love that song so much. (We say "Family now are we." It's a favorite and should be sung in every home.
ReplyDeleteI feel so desperately sad for your cousin and all those in the west who are dealing with this incomprehensible tragedy. Seeing that beautiful autumn shot and knowing the aftermath really hits hard.
I love that song. We sing it often at our church, too. And peace is something sorely needed in this world today.
ReplyDeleteMy fairly new to me, second cousin, last her home and land to the Carr fire in Redding, No. Calif. in 2018 - so I know what your cousin and so many others must be going through. I hope she will be OK but know it's a devastating situation for anyone facing such a loss.
ReplyDeleteAs for you dear friend, we are concerned knowing that Portland has terrible air problems now from the surrounding wildfires - do stay in and take care.
We so love that song - especially as Jasmin sang a solo part on stage in a big concert a few Christmasses ago.
Holding you close in thought.
