A Woman's Journey

On preparing to take a journey, I have been reading books.
The one just finished is Jenny Walton's Packing for a Woman's Journey
by Nancy Lindemeyer, the first Editor-in-Chief of Victoria Magazine.
You can visit Nancy at her blog: nancylindemeyer.blogspot.com
A paragraph that I enjoyed close to the end of the book:
"If our pages speak to the beauty of a woman's life through the artfulness of the things she has gathered about her, then we are dealing with intangibles that are not easy to quantify. When our country was settled, our foremothers took with them in those covered wagons moving west a teapot from home, candlesticks that had been in the family, a tablecloth embroidered by a great-grandmother in Europe. Holding on to these reminders of home and family gave them the courage to go on."

Have courage as we share together our journey.

  3. As soon as I saw the title of this blog post I thought of that book! It is one of my all-time favorites and, as a magazine editor myself (albeit a *much* smaller magazine), I have taken heart from so many things Nancy had to say. Just a lovely book -- for all women!

  6. Thank you for pointing out this book and for the link to Victoria's first editor: I loved the magazine when I was still living in DC. I have heard it is back in print, but haven't had a chance to see one of the new issues.

Thank you for visiting my blog and your kind comment! :-)

  7. For many years I've collected books written by female travelers. The book you mention might be a good addition to this collection, don't you think?

  9. Oh, I have that book and LOVE it. I also think Victoria has never been the same (or as good) without Nancy. Thank you so much for sharing that link. I never thought to look for her in blog land.

Hey, have you ever read anything by Faith Andrews Bedford. I think you would love her essays. Her wonderful book is called Barefoot Summers. I think you would love it.

  10. I love Nancy and was so thrilled to learn she was now a part of our blogging world. I love her Jenny Walton book and I wouldn't be surprised if the quote you mention is one I've marked (ever so carefully) in my own copy.
