Red Plaid

 

Have you ever had a favorite cookbook?
Did it teach you how to cook?
My very worn Red Plaid cookbook did just that for me many years ago.
When my husband and I got married all of a sudden I realized I didn't even know how to boil an egg, let alone make my husband a simple breakfast.  Now why didn't I think of that sooner?  Not sure, but it hadn't even entered my head.  Thank goodness someone gave us this cookbook for a wedding gift.
I soon had it open and it taught me how to cook.
Several years ago my husband thought I needed a new cookbook, but it just wasn't the same.
 I still return often to my Red Plaid cookbook, in fact an apple pie came out of the oven this week.

    I have the same wonderful cook book and have used it through the years for 36 of them.

    I have the same 2 cookbooks on my shelf and my 1963 version looks like yours. The old one is the best cookbook ever and I use it all the time.

    I Know what you mean as I have the 1968 version and have loved it for many years. I had to replace mine with one I found on eBay. It's still my go to cookbook.

    I love that cookbook too. But I know what you mean about the new one not being the same. I copied several family favorites out of my Mom's edition because they were not in the new one.

    I got a jolt of deja vu from that old cookbook. I have a similar one held together with tape and sheer will power.

    My Mom used this cook book all the time...oh such good memories! Wonderful photo...now I want some apple pie!!!

    Lovely story, Marilyn! I have the BH New Cook Book in a special 2000 edition, which has a chapter at the back with top recipes through the years--I love this book! Happy Days ((HUGS))

    I have a version of that red plaid cookbook myself! My favorite cookbook would probably be "A Taste of Georgia," published by my town's Jr. League. It's a classic and very much my go-to cookbook, the one I look at first for good southern cooking!

    I had the plaid cookbook, from home ec class in high school! It looked used, about like yours! I finally clipped all the recipes I needed and made copies of them since the pages were crumbling!
