Reflections of a Pony

This isn't just any pony.
This is a pony of color.
It has a story to tell.
It has kept secrets as it sits here.
The colors have changed over the years,
but it remains majestic in it's position.

It reminds me of a little song my husband's
aunt use to sing to our young children.
Have you heard it?

"Ride a pony,
ride a pony,
goin' to the mill.
Look out,
your corn is goin' to spill."

This took place on her knees
and never stopped to thrill
my little ones.

My reflection is here with this pony
and in the memories of a time gone by.
Do you remember pony rides at the knee of someone special?

  1. I love the pony, I used to ride on my father's knee. It also reminds me of the painted pony song, a bittersweet yet beautiful song.

  2. Oh, yes! Both my father and my grandfather would sing a Swedish poem about a horse while they gave me a pony ride on their knee!
"Rida, Rida Ranka, Hasten heter Blanka, Vart ska vi rida, Rida sta och fria",

    Thanks for jogging the memory!

  3. My father was a 'pony'! He was a big man and such a great sport. I loved seeing this pony. Guess I need to see it in person sometime!

  4. Lovely pony. No, I don't remember any "knee" pony ride, but my hubby and I sure gave our own kids (and now grands) a whole bunch of them. Sweet memories...

  7. Oh Marylin I do remember pony rides and from both my dad & grandpa. My husband and I share them with our granddaughter as well.
I'm glad you shared these pictures. Our little town of Newnan Ga will be hosting painted horses like these this year. We have a lot of horse farms here in the county and they will help to celebrate that this coming fall!

  8. I remember the time a real pony threw me off, and I never got on one again! (Not traumatized, exactly, just no longer interested!)

  10. Love the way that pony is painted, just beautiful! Nice photography!

I don't remember riding a "pony" on someone's knee, but we "rode" our children and grandchildren many times on ours!
