I love the colors of these simple cups.
They always cause me to smile when I see them stacked just so on my shelf.
What's extra special about them is that they were made probably about the 1950's
in California. We find so many teacups made in England, China, or Japan;
but how often do we see cups made in California or the USA.
Under the saucer it says: Early California, Authentic Vernonware, Made in USA.
This holiday season of gift buying coming up, my thoughts are going
more and more to shopping local.
So this morning it is fun to be sipping from a teacup made in California, USA.
Do any of my tea drinking friends have teacups made in the USA?

They really make a lovely display! It is nice to find something nowadays that is made in the USA! They're like a stack of sherbet colors!

cute! I don't think I have any tea cups made in the US. I should remedy that soon.
ReplyDeleteI love your US teacups. My friend, Elizabeth - you met her in Salem - recently gave me two delightful yellow US teacups. They have such a delightful shape.

I love these cups- the shapes and colors. I have several cups and saucers from different USA companies- I seek them out when thrifting or vintage shopping- usually cheaper because they're not fine bone china.
ReplyDeleteThose ice cream colors are wonderful, Marilyn! Actually they remind me of a blue breakfast set I have from the 50's--a small plate, cup & sauce. Loved using it during my single days, and still use it when I'm on my own the rare times. I know most of my tea collection is china from the UK, as so much fine bone china seems to be made there. Fun to try and find more USA-made pretties like these. :o) Happy Weekend ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to shop local also -- I know it may be hard for the boys and Rick (although a GC to the local bike shop is always a hit!) but for most others, it's easy and good. Supporting local artists, too.
ReplyDeleteThe teacup colors are so pretty. I like the style!
Vernonware. Never heard of it. Fiestaware, yes, but not this. I'm off to eBay. Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteI can see why you love them!!! I love them too. The colors and the shape PERFECT for tea!

Love these soft, dusky pastels! And I think I may have one set made in the USA, the rest being from England or Japan.
ReplyDeleteMy grandmother had a collection of Vernonware which she used at our beach house in New Jersey. It was lovingly passed to me - and now it's at home with my son and his fiancee! SO much fun to see it on your blog! It has such a marvelous feel and texture to it!
