One of my favorites because I love bathing in claw foot tubs
is the Samuel Clemens room (Mark Twain).
Even Dr. Seuss has a room here.
So you see the Sylvia Beach Hotel is not an ordinary hotel,
but each room is unique and a delight unto itself.
Just curious, if you wanted to stay in a room with an authors theme,
what author would you choose and why?
How would you decorate it?

Thank you - I love seeing these amazing rooms. Someone had incredible imagination to 'break the mold' for ocean-front hotels on the coast. I've always thought the Mark Twain room would be a great place to stay. Maybe because of the clawfoot tub!

Jane Austin or Charlotte Bronte. I would decorate their rooms for letter writing, reflection, and have a view to a beautiful garden. Jane's room would be bright and sunny. Charlotte's room would be more somber but with hints of light foreshadowing the joy that will come to her.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I would eventually want to stay in all the rooms, and it would depend on what I was writing at the moment, since I would wish to be near the appropriate muse. Since I'm currently working on southern fiction, I would have to start with the Samuel Clemens room!
ReplyDeleteI have a friend with a Dr. Seuss kitchen (and more -- she's a real fan, fun and funky -- and I love it!) -- so I'm a bit fond of this. Of the rooms I've seen in the inn, I'm most fond of COllette and Twain, but if I was designing a room it might be a Jacqueline Winspear room with lots of post WWI/Edwardian/Georgian London feel because I love her work. Or maybe 30s Agatha... what a fun thought!
ReplyDeleteThose rooms are amazing... so clever and creative! I would love to stay in a room that depicts Miguel Cervantes de Saavedra... Don Quijote, windmills, Spanish countryside.... my second love, after tea, of course!
