Recently I woke to a couple inches of the fluffy, white snow.
A perfect day to scoop up some snow in a pretty teacup.
Isn't the contrast fun?
Putting some snow in the freezer for later it became a ball of ice.
Isn't it interesting how temperature makes the difference?
The weather had gotten cold enough to change our normal rain to snow.
Putting the snow in the freezer changed it to ice.
The same goes for temperature and tea.
Some teas such as a green tea tastes much better when not
put in hot, boiling water.
A black tea tastes much better when steeped in boiling hot water.
An oolong tea tastes better when the water is just under boiling.
Do you try your teas in different temperatures?
It is fascinating to experiment and see what the difference in a cup of tea
makes when steeped in a different temperature of water.
Have fun with your next cup of tea and steep it in a different temperature than usual.

I don't miss it being so cold, but I sure do miss the few days of snow we got last year!
ReplyDeleteSure wish we would get some snow around here! It was almost spring-like the last two days, but has turned bitter cold again. I start with a mug of green tea, but by the time I get finished with it, it is cool. There is a pleasant change in flavors as it cools. Then I resteep the leaves, it's warm again, but with another flavor change since the leaves have been used a second time. Again, the tea cools, againg I resteep the leaves for a third time, experiencing another flavor change. I love how the flavors evolve as the temp changes and as the leaves are reused. Fun!
ReplyDeleteSo true and so important, those temps1
ReplyDeleteI'm still laughing that Puxatawny Phil says we're going to have 6 more weeks of Winter. WE haven't even HAD Winter in So. CA yet. :(

I had no idea that the water temperature for tea varied! That is interesting. What a lovely teacup!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo concept --- very pretty teacup and so nicely paired with snow.
ReplyDeleteYes, I make tea in varying temperatures of water depending upon what tea I am serving.
I didn't know this about tea - until I met you! You've been a great teacher and now I wouldn't dream of boiling water for all my teas.

Interesting -- I've never played with tea and temperature. I think it's an experiment I should try! (Word: Mister. I love real words!)
