2015 My Word

Jumping right, savoring the day after Christmas with
a feeling of peace and quiet.

As you know if you have been following me awhile,
I have a new word for the new year.
A word I embrace instead of resolutions.
For 2014 it was "Laugh".
Now that might sound like a strange word to choose,
but I realized I just don't laugh much.
I might smile, but not a full out laugh.
Laughter is good for the soul and for health,
so I chose Laugh.
It was a hard word for me because it just made
it more clear I don't laugh much.
I looked for laughter, but often it was illusive.
I will hold onto it longer and continue the search for the rest of my life.

In the meantime, I have chosen a new word to put in the pack.
The little mouse above is seth, the traveling mouse, and
he carries my words in his pack.
A new word is tucked there now for 2015,
the word is "Grateful".

"Here's the gift of gratitude: In order to feel it, your ego has to take a backseat. What shows up in its place is greater compassion and understanding. Instead of being frustrated, you choose appreciation. And the more grateful you become, the more you have to be grateful for." Oprah Winfrey

Do you choose a word for the year?
I find it very good for my soul.

I may not be around much next week; so wishing you a blessed end to your 2014 and a wonderful new 2015!

  3. I know a few people that choose a motivational word at the beginning of a new year, seems like a good idea. Grateful is explained very well in the quote by Oprah, and I have admired many of her words of wisdom shared.
My choice would be 'Grace' which I understand as 'unconditional love and acceptance'. It is very much on my mind after a 8 week bible study class with the book 'Changes that Heal' by Dr. Henry Cloud.
May we both focus on our words of self improvement in 2015.
    Happy New Year Marilyn!

  5. You know the word 'grateful' is special to me. It's something we all need to focus on through life. Yes, I have a word for 2015. I'll be sharing it soon.

  6. Marilyn, we are alike in the laughing out loud type of laugh - it's hard to do, and I've never guffawed, roared or screeched with laughter!
I like to giggle though - and chuckle when I'm alone.

I think you will find 'grateful' easier to embrace. You are such a kind and thoughtful person yourself, and I for one, am definitely grateful for having you as a friend.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers - may your surgery go well dear and recuperation be quick. You and J will certainly have plenty of time together over the next few weeks. Don't forget to tell T to rev up his chef skills!!!

Love and hugs from us both - and please keep in touch so we know how things are going.

  8. I love this idea of choosing a word to focus on for the year and have done it in the past but not for a few years. I love your choices, both for 2014 and 2015. Laughter is such a wonderful thing; I've never imagined that it could be cultivated, but...of course! Wishing you a good start to the new year.

  9. Choosing a word to focus on in the coming year is a good one. We used to do that in our church group that I belonged to in my home town, but I haven't thought about doing that in the last few years. My favourite word is 'peace' but 'grateful' is another good one. Happy new year Marilyn!

  14. Hi, Marilyn! Oh, this is a lovely beginning to 2015! Hope you & yours had a wonderful holiday time. Very much enjoyed catching up with you here... I'm sorry to be so slow. Too much fun & feasting... LOL! Laugh is good. I love to laugh, but realize, I too, sometimes don't always laugh as much. Smile--lots. But full out, belly-laugh--not as often. Grateful is a sweet work to be mindful of throughout a year--beautiful choice. My work this year is JOY--reclaiming more joy. Oh, and you'll never guess... I'm reviving the blog. Yes, and I was away sooo long... LOL! I'm claiming a woman's prerogative, and more...What can I say? ;o) Happy Days & Happy New Year ((LOVE & HUGS))

  15. I will look forward to seeing how you focus on this word this year. I attended a business women's lunch in December where we all received the gift of a gratitude journal. I love journaling, and I *aim* to live a life of gratitude, but I'm not quite sure how I want to use my journal just yet. I'll be looking to your "grateful" posts for ideas!
