When you were a child, did your mother bring
you tea when you were sick?
This photo was taken at the Maryhill Museum.
I don't remember the artist, but love the photo.
It reminds me of the times when I was sick
and my mother fixed me tea and toast cut in strips.
No, my mother didn't look like this, but she
had the same comforting feel when she brought
me tea in bed.
"Tea was such comfort."
-Edna St. Vincent Millay
"Take some more tea," the March Hare said
to Alice, very earnestly.
"I've had nothing yet," Alice replied in an offended
tone, "so I can't take more."
"You mean you can't take less," said the Hatter,
"It's very easy to take more than nothing."
-Lewis Carroll

Oh yes, cambric tea. I can't remember if it was chamomile or weak black with milk and suger - comfort in a cup - Mommy
What a lovely memory.
p,s, visited your mom's blog. She is so cute.
Yes, it is...we used it in times of comfort and times of fun. That is a great painting!
A cup or tea or cocoa always works for me!
With mom it was Lipton soup. Now a days, I prefer the tea though. I lOVE the picture!
Love the painting.
In our family we didn't think of tea for the sickroom, but often 'Mommy' would bring us flat ginger-ale or Welch's grape juice to sip.
That is such a sweet painting...there's such a presence and tenderness about the moment in time. Lovely memories you share today, Marilyn. Some of my fondest sick memories are of my Mom making me tea, scrambled eggs and cinnamon toast...*sigh*... Eggs & toast never tasted so good. Whenever I'm sick I still wish for my Mom's eggs & toast! :o) Happy Weekend ((HUGS))
Gosh Marilyn...no. I am a child of the 60's, my mother brought us 7-up, saltines and chicken noodle soup out of a can. It was Heaven then.
Can you believe I didn't drink tea as a child - my dad always thought me not a true Brit because I only drank coffee! When under the weather I think mum always brought me hot milk - or that yucky bowl of bread soaked in milk that was perhaps the English version of chicken soup!!!!
What a lovely painting this is.
Mary
What lovely artwork! My mom always brought me chicken noodle soup and ginger ale, and I always loved that feeling of being hovered over when I was sick.
