I had meant to share this sooner, but life
sometimes distracts; so here I am sharing Christmas tea time
at the Hotel deLuxe in Portland, Oregon.
My sister and I most often go to tea for birthdays in March
and for Christmas.
This year it was the Hotel deLuxe.
The surroundings are so 1920's era in feel,
which makes for a special afternoon tea experience.
It is a historic hotel in Portland and use to be called the Mallory Hotel.
They serve Smith Teamaker's teas and we enjoyed a lovely Darjeeling.
The sandwiches were for the most part the traditional
salmon, cucumber, egg salad, then they added a pimento cheese
and one with cranberries.
There were scones, both plain and raisin,
served with jam and cream.
To top off the special celebration were sweets which included
a fruit tart, chocolate cup with raspberry, ginger cookie,
and spice cake.
The music played on a player piano,
the room was full of those celebrating with tea,
and it just felt like for awhile we took a step back in time.
A gentler time, a non-rushed time, and a time to sip tea.

Marilyn, every so often I simply must indulge in a posh hotel afternoon tea! Lovely. I would have enjoyed all the sandwiches except the salmon. I've just never liked smoked salmon, so I always ask in advance for a substitute. I love that feeling of stepping back in time at a hotel like that.
This is SO elegant, Marilyn! I would feel so shabby! And it looks like a perfect way to celebrate the holidays!
I miss visiting really nice, traditional English tea rooms which I loved as a child - lots of these delicacies are familiar. . . . . . . . . but I'm on a diet now and can't have them, boo hoo!

My goodness that looks delicious. I have a friend in London, who I have promised to go and have tea with, if I ever cross the pond. This looks so good, I may just have to start swimming.
