When you were a child, did you love running and kicking up the autumn leaves?
Does the child in you still love kicking up those leaves?
Mine does.
Recently I was out walking and kicking up those leaves.
Walking by the university in my neighborhood there was a huge mound of leaves.
There was a student there spraying water on the leaves.
I turned to him and said, "if you weren't spraying water on those leaves
I do believe I would need to jump into that pile".
He looked at me strangely and said, "you would want to jump into a pile of compost?".
So young and yet he had lost his child's heart.
It is all in the perception.
Do you still have that child's heart that wants to jump into a pile of autumn leaves?

Marilyn, Several years ago I flew out to the East Coast to be with my daughter while she attended a sales seminar. It was in the heart of Fall. While she was in NYC at meetings I was left to my own demise. So I went to the front desk and asked where the nearest shopping area in walking distance was. The front desk clerk looked at me strangely, walk? So I set out for a brisk and most memorable walk in Inglewood, New Jersey with colorful leaves covering the sidewalks. I kicked a few piles of leaves on the way. I found a old time dime store and toy store. But, my real treasure was a wonderful walk on a Fall day I will never forget.
Hi Marilyn, When my kids were young we had a huge maple tree in front of our house, with a tiny front yard the kids spent endless days playing in the piles of leaves; I still get wildly enthusiastic just thinking about it! Just one of life's simple pleasures, love the statue! Blessings, Pam
Yes! I love to go outside in the fall and stomp around until I hear some nice crunchy sounds!
Hi Marilyn! I love this darling little statue girl. Did you know your name is mentioned in Angela McRae's new tea book? Isn't that the sweetest!
oh what a beautiful photo! to play in the leaves was such fun... still is.
i love kicking a pile of leaves, but not jumping in them. i'm always afraid that spiders and other creepy bugs might be hiding inside.....
Child heart that's me...just today on the school playground I was skipping with some students through the leaves...it was such a lovely fall day. xoxoox Hugs my dear and I oh so love your image today...
Funny Marilyn, I still jump in the leaves, everyday! I love the rustling under my feet, and flinging them around. We'd do leaf piles all the time as kids, and raking them into leaf walls making dream houses. I don't see kids doing that anymore, which is sad. Me, I'll continue with the kid at heart fun!
I think I need to find that child again...
When did leaves become compost? I mean, I KNOW they are compost or IN compost -- but when did they stop being leaves first? I would have jumped with you!
Four-star photo on this post!
