Goodnight Sleeptight

The Blue Moon on July 31st.
Did your mother ever say:
Good night, Sleep tight
Don't let the bed bugs bite
If they do, bite them in two.
That's the way the monkey's do.

My mother always said that, such fond memories of words spoken.

I live near the Columbia River, so it wasn't much of a journey to venture
out on a full moon evening in summer to take photos of the moon.
Walking back to my car I snapped this photo and actually ended up
liking it better than the moon.
Would you like spending your nights under the light of the moon
in a houseboat on the river?
I wonder if the gentle lap of the water nearby would lull us to sleep.
Would it be a gentle ride or wild on a stormy night?
Sometimes I dream of nights such as these floating on the river.

But for now I will say, have a dear, sweet night of sleep.
Good night and Sleep tight.

Happy weekend, dear friends.

Lavender Blue

The lavender in my garden is ripe and ready for something special.
I hadn't made lavender jelly before, but this week was the week to make jelly.
I just love summer for the bounty from the garden.
This is my first try and it turned out quite good.
Isn't it amazing how the color changed?
From lavender blue to pink.
What would you use lavender jelly on?
I thought of thumb print cookies at Christmas time or scones.

Lavender in the garden reminds me of the song.
Now let's all sing along ~

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
Lavender's green
When you are king, dilly dilly,
I shall be queen

Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,
That told me so

Call up your friends, dilly, dilly
Set them to work
Some to the plough, dilly dilly,
Some to the fork

Some to the hay, dilly dilly,
Some to thresh corn
Whilst you and I, dilly dilly,
Keep ourselves warm
Lavender's blue, dilly dilly,
Lavender's green
When you are king, dilly dilly,
I shall be queen

Who told you so, dilly dilly,
Who told you so?
'Twas my own heart, dilly dilly,
That told me so.

May your day have a song in it.

A Special Gift

I love giving gifts,
but have a difficult time receiving.
Are you like that or is it just me?
When giving a gift I love to think about that person
and figure out something special I think they might like.

For my birthday this year my husband gave me such a thoughtful gift.
It is a Mother Goose book, but just not any Mother Goose book.
It is a first edition book from 1944.
What makes it extra special is the illustrator is one of my all time favorites,
Tasha Tudor.
I have a collection of Tasha Tudor books, but nothing as special as this one.
I wish I could show you all the illustrations and sometime I may share more.
But for today just enjoy two pages here of my very special gift.

Sailor Boy

If a little boy were to sail away,
Yeo ho for the sailor boy!
He'd certainly come to France some day,
Yeo ho for the sailor boy!

Yet the sailor boy would not feel alone,
Yeo ho for the sailor boy!
For in France he'd find some good friends of his own,
Yeo ho for the sailor boy!

~ Taken from Nursery Friends from France
To Peter and John is the nursery rhyme.

This morning I leave for France for three weeks.
My posts will be sporadic during that time, but I
hope to share a few stories, maybe a friend, and some
pictures along the way. It is indeed a trip of a lifetime.
