Heirloom Roses

Heirloom Roses in Dallas, Oregon is a short road trip
my "live-in gardener" and I take each year.
Of course we can never walk away with only pictures.
This year we added two more rose plants to the garden,
which brings the garden at our home to close to 30 roses.
We have a weakness/love for roses.
Wouldn't this be a beautiful setting for a wedding?

 I love old heirloom roses.
Do you have a weakness for roses?
Does the scent just make you swoon?
Oh the colors and varieties are many
and I want them all.
I imagine our rose garden will continue to grow.
Tomorrow I will share roses from my own home.
Now step outside and smell the roses.

National Iced Tea Day

National Iced Tea Day is today.
Celebrate with a tall, icy cold glass of tea.
Tucked in my Red Rose black tea is a twig of lemon verbena.
It's my favorite "go to" iced tea for summer.
What is your favorite tea on a hot summer day?

The rose in the photo is a new addition to the rose garden.
It is Double Delight, just perfect for someone that loves
to delight in each day.
The fragrance is amazing!
For today it is a "double delight" - roses and iced tea!

Rose Festival Time of Year

The Rose Show at Lloyd Center Mall
is always a delight to visit during Rose Festival time.
In the miniature category this first rose called Irresistible was really
a popular one and also one I really liked.
 Just enjoy!

This is the only one I saw of Sheer Magic, but it was
my show favorite.  Now I want it in my garden.

 The ribbon winners.
It was the first day of the show, but already some roses were not
holding up so well.  The heat this past week has not been good for them.
Real rose enthusiast around town often stand umbrella's above their
prize winning roses to keep the sun off.

Roses do delight my heart.

Monday's Quotes

“It was June, and the world smelled of roses.
The sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside.”
~Maud Hart Lovelace, Betsy-Tacy and Tib

Roses will shine this week right here,
for it is Rose Festival time in the city.
We will celebrate.

Happy Birthday Joey

My calendar says it is Joey's birthday today.
Wow! 6 years!
It doesn't seem possible it has been that long
since I adopted this big guy at 6 months old.
He doesn't let me put him in costumes any longer,
not after the bat wings went out of control.
He is still as timid as the little guy first adopted from the humane society.
He is my pal!
Happy Birthday to you, Joey!

I will announce the winner of the give away when Canvas Pop let's me know.
It closes today, so the announcement will be soon .

Happy weekend, dear friends!

French Crepes

When my children were growing up we occasionally had short term
exchange students come to stay with us.
One summer we had a 14 year old boy from France.
He made crepes for us and left us with the recipe we use still today.
I am particularly drawn to making crepes wrapped around ricotta or
cream cheese when strawberries are in season.
Here is the recipe Stephane share with us.
Enjoy!

French Crepes

6 eggs
3 tablespoons cooking oil
400 ml flour
small teaspoon salt
1/2 litre milk
1/4 litre water

Mix and rest for a few hours.
Melt a little butter in a crepe or fry pan,
when warm add a couple large tablespoons
and cook until done on both sides.

OK, now my mouth is watering for this deliciousness.

PS: This is the last day to sign up for the wonderful give away
mentioned last Friday.
