Conservatory of Flowers

Visiting the Conservatory of Flowers at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco
was an unexpected DELIGHT.
It was totally unplanned, but when I found I had some time to spare and it was nearby I couldn't resist.
It is just BEAUTIFUL.
The Conservatory opened to the public in 1879.
In 1998 Hilary Clinton with the World Monuments Fund placed the Conservatory
on the list of the 100 most endangered world monuments.
With several closures for renovations and damage repairs it has been open this last time since 2010.
Since 2010 over 1 million people have visited what is now the oldest public glass and wood greenhouse in
the United States.
In my top left photo is the 100 year old imperial philodendron.
The orchids were just spectacular.  I couldn't get enough of them.
What a TREAT to visit here on my birthday celebration trip to San Francisco.

First time visiting your blog, thank you for the beautiful pictures. I was at Crown and Crumpet Friday March 8 after visiting the Girl with the Pearl Earring exhibit. I live in the Bay Area and wish I got to the city more often. It really is a lovely place to visit. Happy Birthday and thank you again! Frances

HAPPY BIRTHDAY belated, Marilyn! What a treat of a place indeed--great place to celebrate you! :o) Just now surfacing after 2 weeks+ I've been down with flu & migraines--slowly mending. Fist chance I've had to post and visit friends. So great to catch up with you. Happy Weekend ((HUGS))

Orchids in an historic glasshouse must have been the most special way to celebrate your birthday.
