Christmas at the Aurora Colony

The Aurora Colony is a 30 minute drive from Portland, Oregon.
Each year they celebrate Christmas with an interactive walk through the history of the colony.
Volunteers play the different parts and guide their guests through the museum by candle light.
It had been a long time since I had visited the colony for Christmas and it was a delight recently to walk through history by candle light.
German and Swiss emigrants, established and lived in the Aurora Colony, a Christian communal society, from 1856 to 1883. The story they shared on this evening was the preparations for
a wedding in the colony at Christmas time.
The pageant was fun to visit, but just seeing the museum decorated for Christmas put me into the spirit of the holiday.
What do you do that puts you into the spirit of the season?

Oh, you were at Aurora Colony? You were just about three miles from my home!! I haven't been able to take in any of Aurora's holiday fun because of other commitments but I'm thinking next year I'm going to decline everything extra I've been piling on myself and do some fun things I haven't done before. Like Christmas in Aurora. I was at the Antique Mall in Aurora yesterday for a bit. Have you been there?

That really sounds like a delightful evening. Many years ago we used to do something similar at Black Creek Pioneer Village, which shows life in early Ontario.

It's hard not to be in the spirit of the season once I start singing all my favorite old carols. One of these years I'm going to do a Christmas candlelight home tour.

Very cool! I love anything vintage and historical! Let's see...I think the town putting up their Christmas decorations, lighting the huge tree in the heart of town, and seeing the cedar garland go up get's me going. But it isn't really Christmas time till our tree goes up in our own home! I enjoy the season by reading Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher. It is a such a lovely book at Christmas time.

I love places that preserve history, especially if they offer holiday events. Your collage is very nice.

I love listening to Christmas music by my favorite artists, it instantly puts me in the spirit.
