Trees, a Love Affair

What is it about trees that pull at our heart strings?
Even as a young child they draw us into their arms.
They shade us on a hot day.
They act as an air conditioner.
They provide oxygen for our air.
They provide limbs to climb and swing by.
They calm us with their gentle movement
and surround us with their peace.
They hold life in their hands.
They provide beauty and shield a bad view.

From Canopy.com:
Air Cleaning: Trees produce oxygen, intercept airborne particulates, and reduce smog, enhancing a community’s respiratory health.

As a young child I swung from the branches of any tree I could climb.
I could hide among the branches when the leaves were full.
I could dream of flying like a bird as a sat there in their surroundings.
The peacefulness of walking through the forest touched
my soul.
I knew they were my friends.
I knew they were there for each of us.

Now my grandson climbs trees and swings from the branches.
Trees are part of life going on and embracing each generation.

Is this a love affair with trees.
In a way, YES!
Thanking God today for the creation of trees
to provide delight and fresh air in each of our days.

I adore trees and woods. When I think about what I'll see at the cottage when we return after the neighboring lot tore down just about every tree, I cringe. They speak to me so beautifully.

I love the photo of sweet D.

Trees and little boys go together! Such a darling photo of D and his tree experience. I love to watch trees and imagine what it must be like to point so high.

Tree climbing is a real rite of passage. I did it. My kids did it. Sitting in a tree is the ultimate hug.

Marilyn, you may not know, but we are leaving California. After much planning, we are moving to SE Missouri, back to Don's childhood home. Our grandchild and moving to Tennessee and we just can't be in California and they out there. So, while it wasn't a hard choice to make, it has definitely been emotionally hard to do. We are leaving a lot behind but children trump everything. The good news is Quanah is in Indiana so we will all be close together again and be seeing a lot more of each other.

I also have set up a new blog to reflect this new circumstance. You can find me at www.californiakickinit.blogspot.com

I had a conversation about nature and the beauty of trees with a friend once, and we both agreed we are happy to be considered tree huggers! At this time of year, my backyard trees are so lush and green that my deck feels a bit like the jungle when I go outside, and I must say I love it! :)
