Delight and Beauty

As the summer is soon upon us, my mind is traveling to picnics and tea outdoors.
This is one of my favorite things.

Upon recently reading Anne of Avonlea, Lucy Maud Montgomery writes:
"I'm going to have the daintiest things possible....things that will match the spring,....
little tarts and lady fingers, and drop cookies frosted with pink and yellow icing,
and buttercup cake.  And we must have sandwiches too, though they-re not very poetical."
"Saturday proved an ideal day for a picnic...a day of breeze and blue,
warm, sunny, with a little rollicking wind blowing across meadow and orchard. Over
every sunlit upland and field was a delicate, flower-starred green."
It's so easy to be happy on a day like this, isn't it?"  Anne said.
"Let's try to make this a really golden day, girls, a day to which we can always
look back with delight."
"We're to seek for beauty and refuse to see anything else."

Somedays when the sun is shining and the flowers are all about,
it is easy to see the delight and beauty.

How do you see the delight and beauty on such days?
Let's refuse to see anything but beauty today!

No outdoor tea or anything else today - the rains have come, and they are heavy! The gazebo should display a "Closed" sign today and perhaps tomorrow…….but come the weekend when the temps. will at last be cooler, I'm planning to be out there from breakfast 'til supper!!

Did you enjoy the Chinese garden on Sunday dear? I was thinking of you.

Hugs - Mary

Sounds like good advice! It is a blessing to see all that He has given. Catheirne

A summer picnic sounds delightful, and I like the passage you quoted for it's how I envision tea in the garden.

I love the Anne stories -- Anne and Diana Barry -- what a friendship! Yes, I could see your tea set up precisely as one Anne would adore! Beautiful in every way. Happy weekend!

Love the Anne quotes. I often find inspiration in LMM's writings, too.

What a lovely post! I loved the quote. "Anne" was so wise!

This post reminds me of a birthday party that one of my mom's friends gave for her. After a picnic lunch at the park, they led her to a nearby stream. As she looked upstream she saw a birthday cake floating her way. Just like Anne's.
