The Party's Over

Laundry day is one of my favorite days.
I just love seeing the laundry hanging on the line.
Yes, the party is over, but really it is just beginning.
The tablecloths have been washed
and soon will be ironed.
As I iron I will be thinking of the next time I
share food and conversation over these beauties.
Will it be with tea or maybe a special celebration again?

Using special linens or plates creates memories.
The next time I bring them out I will remember
previous delights of sharing.
Do you remember when you bring out a special
teacup, linen, or plate?
Or maybe someone special gave you this delight
and you have time to reflect on the person these once
belonged to?

my memories are wrapped up in mugs if collected over the years. Expresso Cafe and Bubbs evokes memories of my dad, Hamilton's Cafe - my mother, Java City - a memorable trip to the Grand Canyon.

How I wish I had linens like this! So beautiful, Marilyn. I do have a special one from a blog friend that has embroidered tea cups on it. Very special to me!

I love your vintage linens. They do indeed speak of past, and future, parties!

I have a set of musically-themed dishes that I use every year for my daughter's birthday tea. They have never been used for anything else but her tea parties. Someday they will be hers, and I hope they'll bring back fond memories from all those parties.

Your post speaks to my heart --- in every possible way. You've so aptly said what my heart feels.

Such a pretty sight! I try to use my vintage linens fairly regularly for lunch or tea. It would be a shame to leave them locked away in a closet. I have a couple of tablecloths that belonged to my Grandma, so I think of her each time I use those.

Oh wow, I love this photo! And yes, I too get sentimental about tea linens, and teawares, as I recall those I have enjoyed using them with. Good times!

I can't say I do, but my wife sure does, with china. She has her mom's, and my mom's and my grandmothers china, and she loves bringing them out whenever a gathering occurs at our house. So I get what your saying.

I have my mother's linen, including tablecloths and some Edwardian linen with
cotton crocheted edges that belonged to great aunts. I enjoy using them and dressing my table with special ones when entertaining. my grown children know they are special, especially those that belonged to their English grandmother.
How satisfying to see yours all in a row on the washing line.

I love to bring out my grandmother's china for tea and place it on a beautiful linen tea cloth with gorgeous cutwork embroidery done by my mother. That is such a special feeling seeing them together in my home............history, memories, bittersweet feelings of love and how much I miss them both.

Love how you dry your tablecloths on the line in the fresh breeze, they will smell so good, and be easier to iron!

Lovely image Marilyn.

Love, Mary

I love doing laundry and hanging it on the line, even though the utility yard where I have to hang it is not pretty at all - so I have been able to share very few of the pictures I can't help snapping.
Your tablecloths are lovely and inspire me to plan a tea party soon!
