In the Dark of the Moon
In the dark of the moon,
Beware! Have a care!
Of the ring at the door
And nobody there.
Of the soap hieroglyphics
On a clean pane;
Of hushed, ghostly giggles;
Of steps down a lane.
Beware! Have a care!
Of the small shape in white
With a pumpkiny lantern,
Its features alight.
No use to be looking
Stern, staid and sober-
Better turn goblin
This night in October.

These big orange pumpkins remind me of a large harvest moon.
I hope you are all celebrating the beauty of the season.

What a cute poem!
I am really enjoying the season, but have no pumpkins at my house yet. It's time to get some!!!
oh we are! Roasted root vegetables, turkey and pie. Slanted light of early sunsets burning the colours of the trees bright against the grey skies.

I love your collection of pumpkins, especially the green spidery looking one!
Halloween never did anything for me as a kid, but seeing it my daughter's eyes helps me to feel the energy and fun of this poem.
I haven't bought any actual pumpkins this season so am enjoying seeing them on my friends' blogs!
