Word for the Week

noun
noun: cosy; plural noun: cosies; noun: cozy; plural noun: cozies
a soft covering to keep a teapot, boiled egg, etc., hot.
"a photograph of Smith pouring tea from a pot with a knitted cozy"
a soft decorative cover for an object.

informal
give (someone) a feeling of comfort or complacency.
"she cozied him, pretending to find him irresistibly attractive"

To me cozy is holding a cup of tea in one hand and a book in the other, sitting by a fire or wrapped in a soft blanket, or sitting in a beautiful quiet place visiting with a friend over a cup of tea.

Above is a breakfast set and it says cozy because I can imagine toast and tea in the mornings while wearing a warm fluffy robe.

A secret garden says cozy because I can imagine a quiet, peaceful place with the scent of freshly blooming flowers.

This bottom picture is a tea cozy, well you knew I had to include that.
The sewing pattern for this cozy is my #1 selling item on etsy.
It does keep my tea warm in the pot for quite awhile, it is cozy.

What says cozy to you?

Housekeeping: Google will be discontinuing "follow by email" in July. My recommendation is to bookmark blogs you follow and keep a list of the bookmarks to check from time to time. If I find a better solution for free I will let you know.

Announcing Marmalady's Tea Hat for Women

ANNOUNCING!
A new sewing pattern for tea lovers.
Marmalady's has been selling a girl's 1920's cloche tea hat pattern for quite awhile,
but I have had many requests for a matching hat for mama's.
Finally the fit has been confirmed and the pattern is ready.
It looks particularly cute on women that have hair at least to the bottom of their ears or longer.
There are three sizes in the one pattern, so the right size can be yours.
The hat in the picture was made from vintage decorator fabric.
The flower I found at an accessories shop.
Have fun and sew for yourself or someone special a hat to wear to tea.

You can find the pattern at https://www.etsy.com/shop/marmaladys
Soon it will be at https://www.marmaladys.com

NEW: Child's Vintage Apron Pattern

Introducing Marmalady's new Child's Vintage Apron sewing pattern.
The women's vintage apron has been available for 3 years
and there have been quite a few requests for a child's apron to match.
The pattern is taken from a vintage apron I found many years ago.
Finally it is packaged and ready to sell.
There are four sizes included in the pattern,
so you would find something to fit size 4 to 14.
The child's apron is proportionately longer for more coverage.
What I love about this pattern is "no ties", just comfy.
It is so hot off the development table that it isn't even on my website yet.
You can email me directly.
Cost is $10., plus $2 shipping.

This is Lily modeling the smallest size for me.
I thought she did a great job as my model.

Tea Potholders

Marmalady's is my business.
One of the products sold at Marmalady's is sewing patterns for tea lovers.
One of the patterns is potholders for teapots.
The pattern has two different potholders inside.
One is a butterfly inspired by a friend.
The other looks very simple, a circle in fact,
but inspired by the one in the picture.
How clever, I thought, to have the potholder loop over the nob
on the top of the teapot.  It keeps it in place quite nicely.
So if the handle on your teapot gets warm you could sew a circle
potholder quite easily and put a lop there.
The butterfly on the other hand, I do think you would need
a pattern.  Come by www.marmaladys.com and check the patterns out.
If you don't sew, you might have a friend that would love to make it for you.

Sewing Patterns for Tea Lovers

With the upcoming holiday season I thought I would mention
my business.  I don't often mention it, but have the link on my sidebar.
I have had several comments recently on this blog asking where to
find my sewing patterns for tea lovers.  Because the request came from
Anonymous, I am responding here.
If you like to sew gifts for the holidays or other times during the years,
Marmalady's has 8 great sewing patterns including a pattern for the
above tea cozy.  Next year I hope to add more patterns to the line.
You can find the sewing patterns, plus other tea lovers gifts at:
www.marmaladys.com

Thanks for visiting me there and everyday
here at Delights of the Heart.  I love hearing from
you and having you visit.
Just as a thank you, if you leave a comment
today on this post I will send a sewing pattern for
this cozy to the name that gets drawn on Friday morning.

New Apron for Marmalady's

I am excited to show you a new apron pattern I am developing for Marmalady's.
I couldn't wait, it isn't even on the website yet.
It is a copy of a vintage apron I found a few years ago in an antique shop.
The original had a beautiful cluster of grapes painted on it and the trim was crocheted.
There are many opportunities to be creative with painting, fabric choices, and trim choices.
Several have asked me to put together an apron pattern that would be great for a mom or grandmother.
I thought this would be the perfect gift.
Just make the apron in a light color or white, then the children can paint their hand prints on it.
The children I had painting their hand prints could hardly contain themselves.
They wanted to do alot of hand prints; so they did need some supervising to get only the two sets.
It was lots of fun!
The pattern will be available at the end of June and will cost $10.00.

Marmalady's Teacup Carrier

Posted by Picasa
This is the final pattern of six that Marmalady's will soon have on the website, www.marmaladys.com. It is a teacup carrier. When I say one of the patterns is a teacup carrier, people look at me and say "why". But for those of you that are tea lovers you will understand that sometimes we love to carry our teacup along on a trip or to a special occasion for tea. I have had several requests for a teacup carrier and finally here is the pattern to either pick out the fabric and make it yourself or have someone make it for you. I tested one on a trip last fall to Europe and it worked great. The teacup is all snuggie in the pouch.

Marmalady's Teapot Holders

Two patterns come together in the package.

This round potholder is similar to one we used at Babington's in Rome. The ribbon hooks onto the top of the teapot and the potholder covers the handle.

Posted by Picasa
A friend once asked me to make a butterfly teapot holder. This is what I developed, which I think turned out very cute. Using different contrasting fabrics is fun on this pattern. This is the fifth pattern that will be available in May on www.marmaladys.com. Next week I will share the final pattern of the 6 new patterns developed for you. It has been a great project and one I think any tea lover would love.

Tea Cozy Patterns

Marmalady's Wrap Cozy
This is the pattern of the cozy Marmalady's has sold for several years. It is possible to purchase a ready made cozy at www.marmaladys.com. But if you sew and would like your own fabric choice, here is the pattern.
Marmalady's Tent Cozy.
The traditional cozy pattern was developed from a cozy I purchased in England.
Both of these cozy patterns will be available in May on my website.
I use the wrap cozy when I am serving alot of tea and want to keep the cozy on the teapot. It is filled with a thermal filling, which keeps the tea warm for up to 2 hours. The traditional cozy I like when I am having tea for just myself and don't mind removing the cozy and then replacing it with each serving. It uses a lofty filling and also keeps the tea warm for up to 2 hours. Now all you would have to do once the cozy is made, is warm up the teapot, make tea, and enjoy!

Marmalady's 1920's Cloche Girl's Hat

1920's Cloche Girl's Tea Hat
For some of you that have been following my blog for awhile you have seen this hat when I had the vintage clothing series. This hat was styled after the cloche hats so popular in the 1920's. Now I will be selling this pattern on www.marmaladys.com starting the first part of May. It is a little girl's hat and has three sizes in it. It probably would fit a small adult head also. My prototype is made out of a velveteen, but a pretty cotton or even wool could be cute. You can decorate it with a flower, a brooch, or just leave it plain. Wouldn't this 1920's Cloche Girl's Tea Hat look darling on any little girl in your life, then take her to tea for a special afternoon experience.

Don't forget to leave a comment for the give away mentioned yesterday.
Today is my 200th blog and I am celebrating.

Vintage Apron

Front of Vintage Apron
Back of Vintage Apron
*****
For 25 years I worked in the world of apparel as a patternmaker. I worked for Jantzen and Nike. The sewn items you see on www.marmaladys.com are my patterns. I have been asked over the years if I have certain fabric patterns for my aprons and tea cozies. Not being able to have individual fabric patterns for each person's desires it finally hit me, why not sell the patterns then you can make it or have someone else make it for you. Why I hadn't thought of that sooner, I don't know. But finally here is the beginning of Marmalady's Patterns. Starting the first of May they should be on my website for sale or contact me by email during April and they may be ready. I will feature a different one of the patterns during the next month.
***
The Vintage Apron pattern is a copy of an apron I found several years ago in an antique shop in Portland. I wear it everytime I am representing Marmalady's at a show. So many people have asked me about it and I finally have made the pattern for you. It is very comfortable, as there is no binding tie around the waist. I love wearing it. On my website the ready made apron is only one size. The pattern will have four sizes in it and will fit everyone from Small (4) to XLarge (20).
