Happy Birthday Joey

My calendar says it is Joey's birthday today.
Wow! 6 years!
It doesn't seem possible it has been that long
since I adopted this big guy at 6 months old.
He doesn't let me put him in costumes any longer,
not after the bat wings went out of control.
He is still as timid as the little guy first adopted from the humane society.
He is my pal!
Happy Birthday to you, Joey!

I will announce the winner of the give away when Canvas Pop let's me know.
It closes today, so the announcement will be soon .

Happy weekend, dear friends!

French Crepes

When my children were growing up we occasionally had short term
exchange students come to stay with us.
One summer we had a 14 year old boy from France.
He made crepes for us and left us with the recipe we use still today.
I am particularly drawn to making crepes wrapped around ricotta or
cream cheese when strawberries are in season.
Here is the recipe Stephane share with us.
Enjoy!

French Crepes

6 eggs
3 tablespoons cooking oil
400 ml flour
small teaspoon salt
1/2 litre milk
1/4 litre water

Mix and rest for a few hours.
Melt a little butter in a crepe or fry pan,
when warm add a couple large tablespoons
and cook until done on both sides.

OK, now my mouth is watering for this deliciousness.

PS: This is the last day to sign up for the wonderful give away
mentioned last Friday.

Fairy Tales

Upon reading the Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern my mind was
already captured by a fairy tale.  In the story we meander through avenues between
black, white, and grey tents taking in surprises along the way.
So just a few days ago as I had the opportunity to wander in this garden,
I was enchanted at the surprises I found along the way.
The beauty was astounding and I was wrapped in another fairy tale.
A fairy tale of Bearded Iris.

 Welch Poppies
Large acorns hidden by wee fairies.
A place to sit by an evening fire and dream.
 Touches of color.
A hidden avenue with a bench and birdhouse.
The bird song touched my heart right here in this garden.
I was enchanted by the hummingbirds fluttering about.
A hide away tucked in amongst the roses.
A friendly creature sitting in the bird bath of succulents.

And roses splashed across the palette in every color imaginable.

Visiting this garden and pottery shop is by appointment only.  503-774-5387

Teacup History and Memories

From Wikipedia: "The first small cups specifically made for drinking the beverage tea when it was newly seen in Europe in the 17th century were exported from the Japanese port of Imari or from the Chinese port of Canton. Tea bowls in the Far East did not have handles, and the first European imitations, made at Meissen, were without handles, too. At the turn of the 19th century canns of cylindrical form with handles became a fashionable alternative to bowl-shaped cups."

From this beginning of the teacup creativity has taken place.
The artistry of beautiful teacups and still keep the functionality
has intrigued me, delighted me.
This Shelley teacup was purchased just days ago at a garage sale.
Now when I say a garage sale you would think it was a bargain,
but I paid full market value.
I just couldn't resist the artistry, the feminity, the pink, the flowers,
and the scalloped edge of the cup.
The pattern is Stock and it was made in England.
The most special part of all is that it was in the collection of a friend
that passed away a few years ago.
Thinking on her love of this cup teaches me so much about her.
She must have noticed and loved so many things about this cup that I have noticed.
I am thrilled to be able to enjoy tea from this cup and remember a friend.

Don't forget the give-away mentioned on Fridays post.
