Focus on JOY

Do you read the news or watch it on television?
I realized this morning that one of the first things I do in the morning
is pick the newspaper up off the porch, then sit with my cup of tea
and read the latest news.
How depressing it that?
And then I come and chat with you.
I am wondering if I just skip the news and come and chat if
my words would be sweeter, just wondering?
Delights of the Heart is the place I can focus
on the JOY of life.

So tell me today, what brings JOY into your life today?
Let's focus on JOY and Delights.

A frozen rose sitting at the entrance to my house last week.
It was quite beautiful in it's frozen state and brought JOY to my heart.

Marilyn, my family and friends bring joy into my life! The concept of friends extends to both my blogging and genealogy community, too. I am blessed to have such wonderful, friendly and giving people in my life.

I love this, Marilyn! Sometimes I have to just turn off the news. My "DH" learned a saying recently from an older, wise person. "Don't let anyone steal your joy." I've been thinking about that a lot.

I love that you and the other thoughtful people who have commented need to just turn off the news sometimes...

On my drive to work, I listen to NPR. And I feel like I need to, but there are days when it just sucks the joy from me and I can't. Those are the days I put on Aretha Franklin and hope for the best!

Lovely last rose!

This is going to sound bad, but, i don't read the paper or watch the news. I find that somehow, the big stuff finds its way to my ears anyway...and if it gets too big to ignore or convoluted i will go to a creditable source (NPR, BBC) and make some sense of it.

My news is this: the pear tree is changing from orange to red. I have one last rose on the bush. There's a family of 5 deer who walks across our yard every morning. Bunnies abound.

Life is good. :)

I probably OD on news myself, but then that's the business I'm in so I can't seem to help it -- and if you want to be a well-informed citizen, you have to read, hear, view (and filter) so much these days! Still, there are times I briefly "go dark" with news just to take a mental break from the constant barrage of stuff entering my head! What is bringing JOY into my life this week is focusing on giving to others. This is the week we have a tea fundraiser to collect toys for needy children in my community, and I can truly say I get joy from the thought of all the kids who will be blessed!

Well, today, of course, isn't the day you posted this (I don't think!). What gave me joy -- I think coming home to a relatively clean house, making my pralines, looking at my tree and feeling good about the holidays. Works every time!

My verification word is "realista" -- My expectations aren't always realista, but they're always hopeful!

A beautiful picture --- the rose brings JOY even on a winter day.

I think even the newspaper can bring JOY. Although news is often depressing, newspapers also share about neighborhoods and communities, and that connection brings JOY.
