Whisper in the Air

An edible chrysanthemum in my garden.
The only pumpkin in my garden.

There is a whisper in the air,
seasons are changing.
It is a time for gathering in,
taking in the end of the summer warmth.
A time for harvesting,
soaking in the last rays of sunshine.
Preparing for the winter time.
What are you doing to prepare?
Are you harvesting from the garden?
Sitting in the afternoon sun?
Take in the memory of how the sun feels.
Remembering also the warm tomato,
eating the warmth of the sunshine.
Remember how it feels as we step forward
into fall.

I'm taking in the last of my tomatoes this weekend, making sauce for a homemade lasagne, rooting geranium cuttings, and thinking on the short wait that is left before cool weather arrives. It will be so welcomed this year especially.

There was such a lovely chill to the air this morning...there was a fire down the valley from us and the wisps of smoke floating our way reminded me of the first time the woodstove starts to warm the cottage each autumn.
Thankfully the fire is out now...and that it's about 18 degrees cooler than yesterday!
Come on in Autumn!!

What a lovely post! I am thinking of canning pears from my tree this week. Eventually I need to move from the thinking to the doing!

This evening we dined in the gazebo - overhead fan at high as the heat has returned! Fresh corn, Masala Burgers (Trader Joe's wonderful Indian spicy veggie burgers), and Caprese salad. Ripe juicy tomatoes layered with fresh mozzarella, just picked basil, drizzle of olive oil, lots of ground black pepper and a tiny sprinkle of sel de mer! Heavenly - my favorite, and impossible to make taste this good with those pale, hard Winter tomatoes.

How I'll miss them and all the other locally grown vegs. Having fresh produce is the biggest perk of Summer for me!
