A Gift for You - A Flower and a Poem

Today is more than one flower. As I walk into my market I cannot resist stopping for a few moments to admire the flowers. Sometimes a bunch of flowers get tucked in my market basket and home they come. Do you love "supermarket flowers"? They make my heart happy.

The words today come from a song by Ed Sheeran. I first heard of this song at a memorial service and it has remained in my heart. I think it is the perfect song for such an occasion.

 Supermarket Flowers

I took the supermarket flowers from the windowsill
I threw the day old tea from the cup
Packed up the photo album Matthew had made
Memories of a life that's been loved
Took the get well soon cards and stuffed animals
Poured the old ginger beer down the sink
Dad always told me, "Don't you cry when you're down"
But mum, there's a tear every time that I blink
Oh I'm in pieces, it's tearing me up, but I know
A heart that's broke is a heart that's been loved
So I'll sing Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you'd be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah
You're home
Fluffed the pillows, made the beds, stacked the chairs up
Folded your nightgowns neatly in a case
John says he'd drive then put his hand on my cheek
And wiped a tear from the side of my face
I hope that I see the world as you did 'cause I know
A life with love is a life that's been lived
So I'll sing Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
When I fell down you'd be there holding me up
Spread your wings as you go
And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah
You're home
Hallelujah
You were an angel in the shape of my mum
You got to see the person I have become
Spread your wings and I know
That when God took you back he said Hallelujah
You're home

Sad on one hand, but it makes me happy too.
Whoever he wrote this song for, she had a sweet life with super market flowers, tea in her cup, and memories.
Have a great week, dear friends!

Your song today had me going to YouTube to hear Ed Sheeran sing it - it brought tears to my eyes. What a sweet tribute, and how lovely for her to be remembered for flowers, tea, and memories.
Thank you, Marilyn.

I love flowers from the supermarket. I haven't bought any for myself in awhile, cause they can be expensive, but I've been wanting some red Carnations for Valentine's Day. Such a sturdy flower lasting for a long time, and a scent that is so pretty. So glad you take some flowers home with you when shopping at the supermarket, Marilyn. We need to do that every now and then to remind ourselves how special we are.

Well, must say the words of the song are sad but glad you shared because in all honesty I've never heard of this singer/songwriter!
Guess I've been away from my homeland far too long!

Yes, love to check out the supermarket flowers - and Trader Joes's is definitely my favorite, always so fresh and very affordable.
Perhaps tomorrow I'll pop down there and treat myself!

Enjoy your week dear Marilyn. My Steven Smith Teamaker order from Portland should arrive this week! Cheers.

This is the saddest song I've ever heard. The flowers, on the other hand, are joyful. What would we do without supermarket flowers!
