Walk with Me

Welcome to a New Year!
This is the year I will be walking more.
Come along with me and let's get walking.

In May while traveling in Europe my hips and thighs
began hurting alot from all the walking traveling entails.
So when I had my annual physical during the summer
I mentioned it to my doctor.
The doctor said I need to do more weight baring exercise
to also keep osteoporosis away.
She suggested yoga or walking.
Well I use to love yoga, so thought I would give it a try.
Ugh!  I don't know if it was the wrong yoga for me, but it wasn't working.
Then I thought about walking.
Well I love walking, but easily skip it if the weather is too hot, raining, or cold.
I knew it needed to be something convenient or I wouldn't do it.
Well I go to the gym three mornings a week, but had avoided the treadmill.
It for some reason scared me.  I was afraid of falling on it.
But with help from a physical therapist to find exercises to
build up my muscles in my hips and thighs,
she also helped me get over my fear of the treadmill.
Now I walk on the treadmill everytime I go to the gym.
It has had a tremendous help in eliminating pain and giving more energy.
Whew!  So walking is it this year!
Join me in walking with me!
This will be my Monday series.
Beside going to the gym we can walk in many places.
Come along, it will be fun!
In the picture above I was walking to afternoon tea,
now isn't that the perfect place to walk to?
Even had camera in tow!

Happy Walking with Me!

I can't wait to see what wonderful places you will take us on your walks. I have a feeling a stop for tea might be involved now and then, and certainly a flower or two in season! What a good idea, Marilyn. I need to do this more aggressively as well.

For me, this year, Marilyn, it's not resolutions. It's not a To-Do List. For me, these words are fraught with failure. But over the last few days, I've been putting together a Goals List. When I start something, it moves to the In Progress List. When something is accomplished, it moves to the Completed list. Some are fast and easy. Others are more challenging. However, seeing this movement in my life and the daily changes that can happen on any of the lists is very gratifying and satisfying. And, like you, this is the year of the treadmill. We have failed to sell ours so I think my Guardian Angel is trying to get through to me. As I continue my weight loss journey, I'm going to start using that treadmill. Happy New Year, my friend.

I would love to walk with you Marilyn - if only we lived closer!
I know the feeling of sore knees when overseas - I find the cobblestones in France the worst!
I've vowed to walk more this year too - get the heart pumping and strengthen the muscles!
I would love to join you on Mondays!

Oh, I love this post! Walking is my favorite exercise, the only one I find I can stick to, and in the last year, I have met some of my neighbors I never knew before, and I also lost 17 pounds, so I have to think it helps! Also, a friend recommended to me Leslie Sansone's Walking DVDs for when it's too cold or rainy to walk outside. I thought I'd be bored silly but I'm not. So good luck with your new walking strategy — I hope you'll be traipsing across the globe for many years to come!

I shall enjoy walking with you this year Marilyn. I'm sure you'll discover some new places as well as return to much-loved, familiar ones.
